Thunderbird Falls

North of Anchorage

Nature's SkyScrapers

The Alaskan Range makes its own weather, creating its own cloud cover many days of the year. Clear days are rare and wonderful.

Glacial Bowl

Formed by a glacier scooping out the side of this mountain under the weight of the ice that was once here.

Fingers of God

The natives of Alaska believe that this mountain is the hand of one of their gods, turned up and holding a glacier in his palm.

The Road to Denali

The spectatular views were constantly changing and never-ending. Fireweed, valleys, mountains, cloud formations, all blending together in new and wonderful ways around every turn, and over every rise...

South view of Denali

The peak breaks thru the cloud cover as we aproach from the south.

West View of Denali

Another brief glimps looking west at the mountain from another rest stop. The clouds teasing with only short looks at the impressive mountain.

North View of Denali

From inside the park on the bus tour the next day. Spectacular cloud formations that parted just in time, and just long enough for us to get another glimpse.

Denali North View 2

Final look at the giant as we left the park.

Smile for the Camera

This fellow posed for us as the bus stopped to watch him...

Pika Resting

This cute rabbit-like creature lives in the tumbled boulders on hillsides.

Caribou

Majestic and beautiful

Dall herd (closeup)

Zoomed in view of a herd of Dall sheep on a distant slope.

Dall Ram

Closer view of a Dall ram grazing on a ridge.

Dinnertime

Moose feeding on the abundant Willow in the park.

Grizz!

Looking for berries or unsuspecting prey to fatten up for the lean winter months.

Running Grizzly

Adult Grizzlys can reach 35mph... This fella must have been doing at least that downhill on that slope...

Karl & Laura in Denali Park

My friend Laura and myself with the backdrop of the Alaskan Range at a rest stop during the bus tour inside of the park.
